SEPTEMBER 16, 2018 The King Is Coming…Revelation 19:11-21

Rev 19: 11-21: [The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast] I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.” 19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.21 The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

Verses 11-16 Make it Clear that When Jesus Comes He Will be Visible to ALL: The rapture will Not be a Visible Event.   But, When Jesus returns the second time in glory and power, everyone, everywhere will know about it. Look at what these first verses tells us about this visible event.

VS 11-13,16 Tell us something of what Jesus will look like when He returns to the earth the second time. Notice what the Bible says about The Appearance of Jesus.

VS 12 says, He Is Full of Glory…Jesus Christ Wears on His Head Many Crowns.  People can pretend that Jesus isn’t Lord, but one day, His sovereignty will be revealed with great power and glory!

This verse says that “His eyes were as a flame of fire.” This speaks of His holiness! When He returns the 2nd time, He returns as the Lion of the tribe of Judah…Not humbly, but in power, authority and glory!

Vs 11 says, He Is Faithful and True:  He can be depended on to keep His Word forever! What He says He will do!  Unlike the Anti-Christ who will lie and deceive, when Jesus appears, there are no attempts to prove that He is who He claims to be…He shows up as a King and the world now knows it is true!

VS 11 He Fights in Righteousness: All down through history, there have been wars.  They all come from the fact that men want to be God.  Jesus, on the other hand, wages righteous war!  His cause is a just cause!  He fights the battle of the Lord!

We like to view Jesus as a Man of Peace, and He is the Prince of Peace! However, the Bible also makes it clear that He is a Man of War!  God always pursues peace and reconciliation, but if man will not repent, there will come a day when that man must do battle with the Lord.

VS 12-13, 16 When the Lord Jesus returns, three new names are attached to Him. These names reveal much about His character and Person.

  • Vs 12: The Name of Mystery: The Bible tells us that Jesus has a name written on Him that no man can know.  Those who refused to know the Name of Jesus now cannot know Him at all!
  • VS 13: The Name of Ministry: He’s also called the Word of God. In Gen. 1, He merely spoke and this vast universe and all it contains came into being.
  • When He returns, He will speak the Word and all His enemies will be slain before Him in that day!
  • Jesus is ministering right now through His Word! It is the Word of God that reveals our sins. It is the Word of God that points us to a redeeming Savior. It is the Word of God that tells us how to live!
  • God’s Word can be such a blessing in your life! But, anyone who refuses to receive the Word of God and come to Jesus for salvation; One day, they will face the Word of God in judgment!

VS 16: The Name of Majesty: This verse tells us that when Jesus returns, He will have a name embroidered on the thigh of His garment. King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  That day the world will be forced to admit that which they have always denied: that Jesus is King Indeed!

  • The Biggest Decision that Everyone Needs to Make is: Have you bowed before Jesus as the King of Kings and as the Lord of Lords? Have you received Him into your heart?

VS 14: The Armies of Jesus: Notice how His army’s dressed. They’re wearing “fine linen, white and clean”.

  • There is no armor and no mention of weapons. Because, Jesus Christ, does all the fighting Himself!

VS 15: Speaks to the Armaments of Jesus:  When Jesus returns to fight this battle, He doesn’t bring guns, tanks, artillery, or nuclear weapons…He Merely Brings His Word!  His Word has the power to help men and it has the power to judge men. All Jesus needs is a Word and His enemies are forever defeated!

VS 17-18: Says, HIS COMING WILL BE VIOLENT: The slaughter will be so great when the Lord does battle, that God calls for the fowls of the air to come and help dispose of the bodies of the slain.

VS 18: The Flesh Is to be Consumed: All the armies against God, whether high or low ranking all face the same end…In life they were different…But in death they are all equal! Death is the great leveler!

  • Reminder to Each of Us…When death comes…Everything we had and were will be no more!

VS 19-21 says, HIS COMING WILL BE VICTORIOUS: Earth’s Armies Will Be Drawn in and Destroyed at Armageddon.  Their desire to defeat Christ shall be put to an end. They will Fail Miserably!

VS 20 speaks of the Devilish Duo…Satan’s Beast and the False Prophet, Are Destroyed and Thrown into the Lake of Fire!

VS 21 states that the Doomed Multitudes Are Destroyed. The Lord Jesus will speak the Word and without firing a shot, all these armies will be destroyed in an instant of time!

Question: How did these Men and Women Become such Enemies of Christ?  Billy Graham, answers:

Mr. Graham said, Modern man does not like to think of God in terms of wrath, anger and judgment. He likes to make God according to his own ideas and give God the characteristics he wants Him to possess. Man tries to remake God to conform to his own wishful thinking, so that he can make himself comfortable in his sins.  This modern god has the attributes of love, mercy and forgiveness, but is without justice. Man doesn’t want to be judged and punished for sin. So, He “reconstructs” God along the lines of tolerance, all-embracing love and universal goodwill.  In this picture of God, there are no laws that demand absolute obedience and no standards to which man must adhere. For example, more than 900 clergymen and students gathered some time ago at Harvard Divinity School to ponder the so-called “new morality” and its significance for the church.  One professor of divinity said that premarital sex between engaged couples was all right, that God would “understand.” A professor at another theological school thought that no sexual relationship should be absolutely condemned by the church.  “Man tries to remake God to conform to his own wishful thinking, so that he can make himself comfortable in his sins.”  The Law of Moses and the Sermon on the Mount are standards that can never be changed. No clergyman has a right to lower them in the name of God; to do so is to blasphem God and become guilty of heresy.

If You Know Jesus Christ as Your Personal Savior, You have nothing to worry about! If you are saved, you will witness the victory of the Lord from the air.

However, if you are Not saved, if You have Not Confessed to Christ that You are a Sinner and asked Him to Forgive Your Sin…Then You may very well be in that crowd of soldiers that is defeated instantly.
