Have You ever been given a task or Asked to complete a Job that Seemed Almost Impossible? Literally Overwhelming?   This is the Task that God Gave Nehemiah!

Chapter One:  Nehemiah, the Kings Cupbearer, gets word that the Walls of Jerusalem lay in ruins.  Nehemiah Weeps and He Prays to God to Provide an answer.

Chapter Two:  Nehemiah goes before King Artaxerxes and when the King ask why he is sad, he shares he is sad because the Walls around the city of his ancestors lay in ruin.   The King Sends Him with the supplies needed to rebuild the Walls.

  • Alone Nehemiah at Night looks at the Walls…He had defined the purpose and motivated the people…Now the work began.
  • The walls of Jerusalem had been in sad shape for about 150 years. Nehemiah was determined to rebuild them and to end the shame brought upon the Jews in Jerusalem…
  • It was a work that would take many people with a common purpose and desire.

Chapter Three: Outlines All the Workers that Built the Wall: Nehemiah was wise enough to allow a variety of people (Various Skillsets) to pitch in to help build the wall.

  • KEY: Some of us have more skill than others.  Some have more experience than others. Some have more wisdom than others.  But there is a place for all who are willing to work.

Chapter 3–Builders of the Wall:  The Sheep Gate was rebuilt by Eliashib the high priest and fellow priests.  The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah and many others.  The Jeshanah gate was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah. They also repaired a thousand cubits of the wall as far as the Dung Gate. The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Rekab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem. The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Kol-Hozeh.

GOD USES ALL TYPES OF PEOPLE: Priests, Levites and other temple servants. Goldsmiths, Perfumers and merchants. Civic officials.  Every Man and Women is WORKING!

KEY: For service at LifePoint Church, nobody is too young, too old, too poor or too rich.

The Fact that Nehemiah was not able to do the job alone…Gives us the 2nd Labor Day Lesson:

TEAMWORK IS ESSENTIAL TO SUCCESS: Different jobs were assigned to different groups. Each did his own job which was a part of the whole project…Nobody was responsible for the whole task.

  • If any group refused, or failed, to build their portion of the wall, the rest would have had to take up the slack. If they didn’t…the wall would have had one big gap.
  • For whatever reason, the nobles of Tekoa were unwilling to participate. They weren’t part of the team. And that put more work on the shoulders of the others.

It’s the Same here at LifePoint Bible Church…When some refuse to participate, their part of the load, that GOD GAVE LIFEPOINT TO DO…falls on the shoulders of others.

If someone quits a job because they are burned out, what do you think that does to the ones who have to pick up the slack?   Someone might say, “But I have such a small part.” “If I don’t show up, it won’t make much difference.”

Remember the story of the 5 loaves and 2 Fishes…God Uses the Smallest Gift to Do a Miracle!

Everyone Who Seeks to Labor for the Lord, will face opposition from the surrounding people.

Chapter 4: OPPOSITION:  The Workers were constantly ridiculed…Had to stand ready to fight should the opposition attack.

  • There was the Overwhelming task of working through the rubble to try to find quality Materials to Rebuild the Wall. Nehemiah 4:10 They said, “The strength of the burden bearers is failing, yet there is much rubbish; And we ourselves are unable to rebuild the wall.”
  • But they refused to quit the job! And within 52 days the job was completed.

Those Who Stay Faithful to Gods Work Will Have Opposition.  But God Will Provide and Protect until the Task is Done!

God saw the efforts of His people, and found them worthy to be mentioned in the Bible for many future generations to read about. God’s awareness of the work of His people is Our Next Lesson.

THE LORD DOESN’T FORGET FAITHFUL WORKERS: These folks didn’t realize that their names would be preserved in Scripture for Eternity. They didn’t know that I would use them as examples for you at LifePoint Church this Labor Day Weekend!

  • We won’t find many of these names anywhere else! If they were not recorded here, we’d have no knowledge of them –But God still Would!  And He Does the Same with You, Me and All that are Faithful to Doing His Work for Eternity.

The “Invested Life” Always Has God’s Power and His Faithfulness that We Might Complete it in His Strength!

Remember: 1. What we do for the eyes of men and approval brings only a temporary recognition and reward2. What we do for the Lord’s eyes and His approval will never be forgotten!

Hebrews 6:10 says: “For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.”.

Chap. 6:16- Gives Us Today’s Final Lesson: “Opposition to the Completed Wall”

Vs-16 When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

God Doesn’t Require that WE be Special…ONLY THAT WE BE FAITHFUL!

  • Stick to the job when quitting would be easier.
  • Ignore those who Ridicule or speak against you for doing Gods WorK OR Being Obedient when Your peers would make fun of you, etc.
  • Do the work even if nobody notices or praises or thanks you.
  • Keep serving even if you think you’re doing more than your fair share.
  • Refuse to allow any other Attraction OR Distraction to shift you from loyalty to Jesus Christ.

Today, whoever you are, whatever you’ve done, however you may have failed in the past, Jesus calls you to His service…He calls you to serve Him within His church…He wants you to put your hands to work for Him…to “Invest your time” in a work that lasts Throughout Eternity.
